The San Carlos – Mohair Steer Tripping Collar
Steer tripping has long been known as the “cowboy’s event” and is the rodeo event that comes closest to what a ranch cowboy does every day, having to doctor something by himself — raw horsepower, big cattle, and the kind of pressure that demands toughness from both horse and cowboy. When a big, soggy bovine hits the end of a rope, your tack better be ready.
A steer tripping collar is built for that moment. Wider and stronger than a standard breast collar, it spreads the shock across the horse’s chest and shoulders, protecting the horse.
More than aesthetic, fit matters most. A tripping collar should ride making light contact across the chest but not tight. It needs to sit below the windpipe. Not loose, sloppy or overly low; Not too high so as to choke. The collar should be secure, and ready to engage the second the rope comes tight.
Handmade from 100% mohair, with stainless steel hardware and shop-made harness leather tugs, this collar is built to hold up where lesser gear fails. Your horse will appreciate the natural properties of mohair, which is lighter, cooler, drier and more comfortable than leather or synthetics.
