“The naja is a crescent form that predates the American West by centuries. The term “naja” comes from Spanish usage, influenced by older Mediterranean and North African traditions. The naja was believed to ward off evil and protect the horse. They came to the Americas with Spanish horses in the late 1500s, worn on bridles long before the shape became jewelry.”
And this is my rendition of a symbol that has long outlived its makers.
Hand-forged sterling silver crescent pendant with turquoise from the Kingman mine; drawing inspiration from traditional Southwestern designs. This beautiful piece features my signature hand-forged florals, hand-set turquoise stones, and heavyweight sterling construction. Fully fabricated in my Texas studio.
